The Head Start Advantage
For more than forty years, a competitive grant awarded annually through the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Families and Children, has enabled WACOG Head Start to grow and improve the Head Start program that now serves 1,082 at-risk children and their families. Eligible three, four, and five year old children and their families receive quality individualized education and supportive services comprehensive services to support development and build strong foundations for success in school and life. There are 23 Head Start centers throughout Yuma, La Paz and Mohave counties. Five of these centers provide Early Head Start Services to infants and toddlers. There are also five partner sites in Yuma, Bullhead City, and Kingman providing quality Early Head Start services in community child care settings.
School Readiness and Family Engagement are priorities for the program and go hand in hand. Parents are the child’s primary teacher, beginning at birth. More learning takes place in the first five years of life than at any other stage of development. Head Start supports families in building a solid foundation for success for tomorrow’s world.
