Governance

The families at each center depend on Policy Council representatives to bring information from the meetings back to the center. And each center deserves to have a voice for the program. We hope that you will consider being part of the Policy Council and represent your center. Mileage and child care are reimbursed and lunch is usually included. Please talk to your Center Manager or FDA if you have any questions about participating in Policy Council.

Policy Council is made up of parents with children currently enrolled in the program and community members. Serving on Policy Council gives parents a unique opportunity to take part in shaping the WACOG Head Start Program to meet the specific needs of our communities.

Policy Council meets monthly and is responsible for working in partnership with management staff and the Board of Directors to develop, review, and approve or disapprove the funding applications, agency procedures, goals, and direction of the program. Participating on Policy Council is a powerful way for parents to shape the educational experience of their young child and the future of the WACO Head Start Program.

Being part of the Policy Council is a wonderful way to connect with other parents, network with community representatives, and develop or polish important job skills.  Parents gain skills reading and understanding of financial reports, conduct formal and informal meetings, and interviewing and selecting quality candidates to work in our centers. Training is done throughout the year and is designed to meet the needs of the participating parent members. Questions are encouraged and the group works in a supportive positive manner.
